End-to-end partnerships
Pioneering sustainable solutions through end-to-end partnerships. From global feedstock suppliers to forward-thinking off-take partners, we’re building a collaborative ecosystem that drives the bio-economy forward.
Innovation in sustainability propels our work in the bio economy, where we share common goals with our partners.
We collaborate across the value chain, fostering partnerships rooted in respect and transparency to advance business goals, community participation, and environmental responsibility.
CICE SAF Initiative
The CICE SAF initiative, led by the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation in partnership with Arbios Biotech, LTN Contracting, and Canfor, exemplifies powerful Indigenous-industry cooperation.
This project evaluates the potential of converting traditionally uneconomical forest residues into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through Arbios’s bio-oil production process. By collecting these previously unused wood residues, we aim to create high-value products while simultaneously reducing wildfire risk in our forests.
Indigenous relationships
We know we can’t do this alone. Our strength comes from the combined wisdom and capabilities of the people and organizations we work with. Indigenous peoples have been stewards of these unceeded territories for millennia, embodying sustainable practices in their relationship with the land. We are grateful to work alongside communities like the Lheidli T’enneh Nation, with whom we share deep commitments to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
Shell Catalysts & Technologies (SC&T)
In 2021, Arbios Biotech allied with Shell Catalysts & Technologies with the shared goal of creating a low-carbon, circular economy focused biorefinery.
The Arbios Chuntoh Ghuna facility is also made possible with support from the Government of British Columbia through the Province’s Initiative Agreement Program under the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS).
Funding innovation
As an important step towards increasing availability of low-carbon transportation fuels, the Chuntoh Ghuna Facility project has also received support from these federal and provincial government programs.

The organizations behind the vision
Arbios Biotech is a joint venture of two organizations with a shared vision.
Canfor
Canfor is a leading global producer of high-value, low-carbon forest products, including structural lumber, specialty boards, engineered wood products, pulp, paper, wood pellets, renewable energy and increasingly innovative bio-products. Headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canfor has more than 7000 employees at nearly 58 facilities across its diversified operating platform in Canada, the United States and Sweden. With a strong focus on sustainability, integration and diversification, Canfor turns virtually 100% of the wood fibre that enters its facilities into useful products for its global customers.
Licella
Licella Holdings, the global leader in Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) technology, licenses their proprietary Cat-HTR™ platform to our initiative. This advanced HTL technology is crucial for our process, enabling the efficient conversion of forest residuals into bio-oil. Licella’s expertise and cutting-edge solution form the core of our ability to create a renewable bio-intermediate. This product can be used to make sustainable aviation fuel, positioning our project at the forefront of renewable energy innovation.
