Revolutionizing renewable resources: our bio-oil solution
Our advanced renewable bio-oil is not just a concept—it’s a reality transforming industries today. We’re leading the charge in expanding access to low-carbon solutions, in the Americas and Europe.
Producing a high quality bio-oil
Using advanced hydrothermal liquefaction technology, we transform biomass into renewable bio-oil through high heat and pressure. This process creates a versatile, low-carbon alternative to crude oil, tailored for sustainable transportation fuels and chemicals, offering low-carbon drop-in solution for fossil-fuel dependent sectors.

Renewable bio-oil intermediate,
Ready for refinement
The bio-oil from our facility is a ready-for-refining intermediate, with further processing required for end-use products. With the bio-oil market valued at USD 92.59 Million in 2023 (VMR, 2024), we are working with partners in the refining and chemical industries to bring these sustainable products to market.
Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)
Our bio-oil is a potential for refinement into SAF, offering the aviation industry a lower-carbon alternative to conventional jet fuel.
Renewable transportation fuels
When processed, our bio-oil can yield renewable diesel and gasoline substitutes for road transportation. These fuels can be used in existing vehicles and infrastructure, providing a drop-in solution for reducing emissions across the full value chain for fuel production.
Marine fuels
The shipping industry can benefit from our bio-oil for producing low-sulphur, renewable marine fuels. These fuels can help meet increasingly stringent maritime emissions regulations.
Renewable chemicals
Our bio-oil serves as a valuable feedstock for producing renewable chemicals, replacing petroleum-derived chemicals across a wide range of applications.
“Total biofuel demand rises 23% to 200 billion litres by 2028, with renewable diesel and ethanol accounting for two thirds of this growth, and biodiesel and biojet fuel making up the remainder.“

The bio-oil production process
Ever wondered how organic waste becomes a powerful, renewable resource? Our state-of-the-art facilities employ cutting-edge technology to transform biomass into valuable bio-oil. Each step in our process is optimized for efficiency and sustainability.

Biomass preparation area
Raw biomass arrives by truck and is stored under cover. It’s then conveyed through sizing and cleaning equipment before entering a single-pass belt dryer. The process utilizes waste heat from later process stages for energy efficiency.

Cat-HTR™ conversion zone
Dried biomass is mixed with supercritical water and fed into the high-pressure Cat-HTR™ reactor. This pioneering process takes about 20 minutes to transform low-value residues into high-quality renewable bio-oil.

Product separation and storage
The Cat-HTR™ output undergoes separation into bio-oil, gases, and wastewater. Bio-oil is further refined in a vacuum column before being stored in tanks, ready for shipment to refineries for final processing into renewable transportation fuels.
