Licella has acquired Canfor’s 50% interest in Arbios Biotech, making Arbios a wholly owned subsidiary of Licella. This strategic transition marks a major step forward in Licella’s global expansion, unifying the Cat-HTR™ platform under a single, aligned global strategy for advanced biofuels.
Licella Holdings Ltd (“Licella”) has today announced it has acquired Canfor Corporation’s (“Canfor”) 50% interest in Arbios Biotech (“Arbios”) and the Arbios partnership arrangements, making Arbios a wholly owned subsidiary of Licella. This strategic transition marks a major step forward in Licella’s global expansion, unifying its world-leading Cat-HTR™ platform, an advanced form of hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL), under a single, aligned global strategy for advanced biofuels.
As part of the transaction, Canfor will become a shareholder in Licella, reflecting its continued confidence in the future scale-up and commercialization of Licella’s Cat-HTR™ technology worldwide.
“Canfor has played a foundational role in the success of Arbios,” said Dr Len Humphreys, CEO of Licella. “Together, we took a bold idea and built the world’s first commercial-scale HTL facility using biomass to produce low-carbon fuels. We thank Canfor for their vision, partnership, and commitment over the years.”
The Chuntoh Ghuna facility in Prince George (British Columbia, Canada), named by the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and meaning “the forest lives”, will continue to serve as an important focus within
Licella’s global commercialisation pathway.
“We recognise the achievements of the Arbios team in establishing a world-first commercial-scale HTL facility,” said Dr Len Humphreys, CEO of Licella. “The Chuntoh Ghuna facility plays a vital role in Licella’s biomass-to-biofuels global platform. Its continued operational success is key to showcasing the capability and scalability of our technology. This transition allows us to move forward with clear alignment as we rapidly scale to meet the growing global demand for low-carbon fuels.”
“Our focus now is to work quickly and respectfully to align our global operations, maintaining momentum and building on the strong foundations already in place,” Dr Humphreys added. “Arbios remains at the heart of our biomass commercialization pathway. We look forward to combining our capabilities and experience across regions to build a unified, high-performing team delivering innovation with global impact.”
